Carolyn Coughlin

New York City Metro Area, USA

Carolyn is a founding partner of Cultivating Leadership and Growth Edge Coaching and also co-founded and is a board member of the LUME Network.  She works with leaders to help them become their biggest, most complexity-fit selves and trains coaches in the theory and practice of adult development. Carolyn’s coaching and leadership development work is informed in part by the 10 years she spent as a management consultant, and in even greater part by the journey of her life. She writes, talks and teaches about developing whole leaders (body, mind, heart) to thrive in complexity and to create organizations where others can do the same. She is the co-author of Unleash Your Complexity Genius: Growing Your Inner Capacity to Lead and is the is the author of the chapter “Developmental Coaching to Support the Transition to Self-Authorship” in the Winter 2015 Jossey Bass Sourcebook, Transforming Adults through Coaching.

Carolyn earned an AB from Brown University, an MBA with Distinction from the Wharton School, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.  She is a certified Somatic Coach through the Strozzi Institute and is a certified practitioner of the Global Leadership Profile, the Leadership Circle Profile, and the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI).  More importantly, from going on her first multi-day backpacking trip in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana at the age of 9, traveling and working in six different Latin American countries in her 20’s, living with her family on the campus of a boarding school for 25 years, and moving her family to New Zealand in 2012 and back to the US in 2013, Carolyn lives life fully and supports others to do the same.

The information and experience I've gained during this training feels critical to my future work at the Foundation and to becoming more thoughtful, functional, deliberate and connected to my teams and colleagues. I want to reiterate how much I appreciate the culture of career/personal development we have been nurturing, and give a special shout-out to this curriculum and facilitators. The Foundation and the world would be a much easier place to navigate and interact if everyone had the chance to have this experience.
